King Fredrik IV gave Kongsvold (Kings Meadows) its name when he stopped over on his way to his crowning in Nidaros (Trondheim). This was in 1704 and from the 12th century kings, queens, pilgrims, tradesmen, artists and turists of all kinds and nationalities have visited Kongsvold on ther way over the famous Dovrefjell (Dovre-mountain). The last king to wisit us was our present king Harald. We also had the great honour to house queen Sonja and her college, the Queen of Denmark when they spent some days in Kongsvold exploring the winterqualities of Dovrefjell. The hotel has been restored in collaboration with the National Antiquarian and lokal craftsmen and has 32 rooms with shower/toilet, authentic lounges and a diningroom for 70 guests. Kongsvold consists of 20 well maintained buildings and the interior contain many antiques stemming from centuries og hotel operation. Kongsvold is the proud prosessor og Olav's Rose, the seal of quality from the Norwegian Cultural Heritage. Kongsvold is a historical experience. For botanists, Kongsvold is an eldorado with alpine-garden and a diversity of more than 400 spices in the mountains east of Kongsvold. A visit in the National Park Exebition and the small museum at Kongsvold is a must. Welcome to one of the oldest hotels in Norway. The tradition goes back to 1127, and we got royal privileges in 1670. The present houses are from 1720.
