Barberstown Castle

Barberstown Castle, a 4 star hotel located in Straffan, Co Kildare, Ireland

Building: 1288

Barberstown Castle is a Four-Star Country House Hotel & Historic 13th Century Castle, only 30 minutes from Dublin City or Dublin Airport and centrally located between four major motorway links in the heart of Ireland's Ancient East.

This 13th Century Four Star Castle and Country House Four is privately owned and located just 25 minutes from Dublin city centre and in the heart of Ireland’s Ancient East. The perfect base to start or finish your holiday in Ireland.

A proud member of Ireland’s Blue Book and The Historic Hotels of Europe, this property is one of the first great Irish country houses to display its splendour to the outside world when it opened as a small guesthouse in 1971. It has maintained the elegance of design over eight Centuries by sympathetically blending its Victorian and Elizabethan extensions with the original Medieval Castle Keep of 1288.

It was a former home of the acclaimed Musician Mr. Eric Clapton from 1979 - 1987 where famous rock stars came to stay and played music into the early hours in our Green Room & Castle Keep. The Castle is now privately owned & managed and has been carefully upgraded from a 10-bedroom property to a 55 Bedroom Failte Ireland Approved Hotel.

Open: from March until December each year

Rooms - suites

Room numbers: 55 - Rates from € 220 - € 250

Each era of the Castle’s history is reflected in the style of our country house bedrooms.

The heritage of the hotel’s original buildings is mirrored by these lavish guest bedrooms, all the while providing guests with the comfort of modern amenities.

Each room is named after previous Castle owners - from Nicholas Barby in 1300, to Eric Clapton in 1979. Each unique Superior Bedrooms, Four Poster Bedrooms and Junior Suites exudes Old World character and are individually styled with original antiques paired with soft furnishings for your comfort and relaxation - refreshing in these more modern times.

The Barton Rooms Restaurant obtained its name from Mr. Hugh Barton who completed the last wing of the Main House in the 1830s… This adds to the present day unique architectural status of Barberstown Castle. The Barton’s established the famous “Barton and Guestier” French Wine brand and while living in Barberstown Castle they are also famed for constructing ‘Straffan House’ known today as the infamous K-Club (Ryder Cup venue 2006).

The menu can be described as Country House Dining that blends Irish and French cuisines with plenty of flavour. Chef Bertrand Malabhat changes the menu regularly to be reflective of the season’s best produce and locally sourced where possible in order to craft the perfect dining experience for each of our guests.
Pair your menu with our extensive list of Fine Wines and you have the perfect Dining Experience.

Open Friday and Saturday evenings from 7:30pm until last sitting at 9:30pm.
