Childhood friends Tom Victor Gausdal and Stian Floer opened the doors to the newly refurbished Strand Restaurant in spring 2010. Strand Restaurant has existed as a restaurant since 1924; before then the building was a private residence and, much further back, a crofter’s cottage. In all that time, Strand Restaurant has been an important place to meet for many people in Bærum. The restaurant is just 5 minutes outside Oslo and enjoys an idyllic waterside location at the heart of Holtekilen. Major refurbishments were carried out in 2010, including a new kitchen, electrics and ventilation system. The interior design was entrusted to Norwegian designers Vigdis Apeland and Gina Rose.
We’re extremely proud of our venue, which includes a cosy baker’s shop, brasserie and restaurant with the focus on natural food and drink, and four attractive function rooms accommodating groups from 6 to 150. We serve an à la carte lunch during the day, and in the evening you can choose between a 3- and 6-course menu. We have a large outdoor dining area on our sea-facing terrace. We have our own mooring, so you can come by boat! The restaurant is located within Strandparken, which, with its obelisks and sculptures, is a popular place for a walk. Our annual Norwegian Barbecue Championships are also held here!
We want our restaurant to be a vibrant venue for all occasions. Our food philosophy is based on the best local ingredients on offer at any given time. Our menus change weekly, depending on the availability of seasonal ingredients such as wild mushrooms, wild-caught fish, woodland birds and game.
We are firm believers in locally sourced, ethical food, and use the best-quality seasonal ingredients. Our ingredients are either organic or grown in a way we consider to be sustainable. All our food is freshly prepared without the use of artificial additives. And the same philosophy extends to our drinks menu.
