The Fourth is a fantastic 21st century meeting-place where different generations and people from all walks of life get together. The hotel succeeds to merge old and new, connects poetry and cutting-edge technology, embodies the future cloaked in history. The name The Fourth refers to the building’s rich and chequered history. It began life as De Gilden (The Guilds, 1479), then Theatre in 1817, National Bank in 1930, and now is has embarked on its fourth life as a magnificent hotel. The contemporary interior juxtaposed with elements of the building’s history is brilliant. The polished marble floors mirror the former bank’s dignified atmosphere. Sitting in the sheltered courtyard surrounded by lush greenery one enjoys the magnificent historical as well as contemporary architecture, such as The Fourth’s monumental tower or Restaurant Tafelrond’s crisp interior. Hotel The Fourth is situated right next to Leuven’s City Hall, one of most renowned gothic buildings in the world. Another impressive building is the characteristic neo-renaissance University Library with its 87m tower. Well worth a visit is Museum M designed by Belgian top architect Stéphane Beel, housing historical and contemporary art. The Large Beguinage, recongnized by UNESCO as a world heritage site, is within walking distance of the hotel. Leuven is also known for its beer culture. Many famous breweries are open to visitors.
